intrusion of ryegrass into St. Augustine lawn

I have a half acre lot with good St. Augustine growth….have patched it with Floritan. I get small patches of ryegrass in my lawn which seems to crowd out my florida grass. I was told not to worry…it is just as green. Will this rye grass spread? Should I let it go…it is just as green! I have dug some patches out and replaced with Floritan. Should I, as advised, just let it go? Thank you

If it is truly rye grass it should die off this spring/summer from the heat. Then your Floratam should grow over it and that should be the end of that. Good luck.
