Image Damage or Dormant?
DelMerkin – posted 26 February 2008 10:56
About 3 weeks ago I applied Image with a hose end sprayer to kill Kylinga and Nutsedge in my Floritam lawn. Looks like I may have damaged or retarded the growth as I now have some browish patches that resemble “winter die back”. I should have reviewed the threads here first as I have learned this is what Image does. Arrrgg.
So what do I do now? Its late Feb and time to fertilize. Do I wait a bit or “wake-up” the lawn with a spring fertlizer application.
Date: late FebLocation: Central Florida. Temp: 70-80’s
Thanks in advance

Gees, thats not good. Re-read that label. It says to use “Image” on activly growing turf. I’m afraid that you have killed your grass. Hope not; but, I’ve been asked to look at such turf before.

Image should not be applied to a dormant or transitioning lawn. It states that on the lable. You may have damaged you lawn if it was in transition.
You can fertilize now. You may have been better off using a weed and feed in Feb. Something with atrazine to give pre and post emerge control.
At this point I would just fertilize and wait till the grass is greened up again before applying any more herbicide.

My grass appears to be fine now after a good fertilization. Thanks for the RTM reminder.
What is not stated on the label is this product has a window of application in Florida of about 2 weeks – after “transition” and before the 90+ degrees of summer.
Be aware good people.

Actually for your location you should put down a pre emergent in mid/late February then fertilize in mid March. Now would be the time to spray with Image (or atrazine).
Sounds like you just stunned the lawn and that with time, water, and a bit of fertilizer it will be green and healthy again.
