how to make a bumpy uneven lawn smooth

Help…

I live in a 2 year old house where the builder just threw bermuda sod over what ever he left behind. Not to mention the grade was not really adressed. After 2 years of TLC my yard is weedless and green- until I mow it and create dozens of cirlce shape blade markes in the lawn. The grade is so uneven I have to set the lawn on two settings each time I mow. If I don’t I have areas that are scapled or left at 2.5 inches tall. What is the best way to address this? Is it to late in the year to do anything about the grade or should I wait until next year? Do I use sand or peat mulch to improve the grade?

I think if it is that bad, you should face up the idea of starting over and doing it right this time. You need a finish grader to make sure you have no standing water and all the water drains away from the house. The finish grader will leave you a perfectly flat surface to lay sod or seed into.

Beyond that, the grass can stand to be mowed at 4 or 6 inches if you want (except bermuda, bent, or centipede). Just raise your mower to the highest setting and weld it in place. Mow weekly and it will look like the pictures on the fertilizer bags. Tall mowing keeps you from scalping it – unless you have pot holes in your lawn.
