How much zoysia sun?

How much sun does your zoysia get? I have 2 areas that I recently plugged. One area gets almost all day sun (doing awesome) ansd another side (that I even did with larger almost sode pieces) that at this time (winter)gets only about 2 1/2 hours direct sun, that didn’t do too well. I pulled it up and saw that it didn’t even root.

Wondering if it was the sunlight factor, or the ground being too compacted.

The grass is called Z-3. Like the el-toro but finer leaves.

Zoysia is a full sun grass and will not do well in shade. The more shade the poorer the performance.
