I live North of Tampa, FL & This weed is taking over my St. Augustine grass. What is it & how can I kill/control it?

Its bermuda, and there have been products that claim to control bermuda in St Augustine, but with not a lot of success. If the bermuda is sticking up above the St Augustine, you can rub ‘Round up’ on the bermuda leaves. Put some Round up in a little bowl, dip your fingers into it- wetting just enough to not drip, grab the leaves and gently roll them through your wet fingers. The Round up travels thru the plant and kills all the way to the roots. This can be time consuming if you have a lot of bermuda, but you would be suprised how much kill you can get- if you just spend an hour doing the above. You have to be carful though! If any part of the round up, wet bermuda leaf touches the St Augustine, you will kill both grasses. If you are having trouble getting the bermuda to stick up high enough, get a steel rake go down after it and force it up.

Thanks for the info.Do you think I can just remove the area’s that have Bermuda and replace it with new sod.

Sure thing…..if you want to go that route! You will more than likely have bermuda coming up in spots, even if it looks like you removed it all……so remember to keep some ‘Round up’ handy for spot killing.
