Help ID/eliminate this weed
Bermudaman – posted 20 May 2004 08:01
Greetings. Please help identify, and recommend something to eliminate this weed in my bermuda. It is not really overtaking the yard, just a nuisiance, throwing runners all over my yard. Pictures can be seen at te********@sb*******.net.” target=”_blank”>http://photos.yahoo.com/te********@sb*******.net. Thanks for the help.

roundup would be your choice

Yup, I took some down to HomeD and they said it was St. Augustine runners. Thanks.

well there’s a reliable source! might want to id it with a lawn care company or a local Lesco service center. it’s hard to see “scale” on a picture, but it sure looks like st. aug. It’s actually a turfgrass, that’s why no weed control product works on it, although it’s a weed to you. i think you’ll have to use roundup.

Well, if it is St. Augustine it should be almost eliminated this year as I normally starve my yard of water…the bermuda doesn’t seem to need all that much watering to survive. Everything else just burns up in the heat!!! I may just wait until next spring and do a blanket grass and weed killer while the bermuda’s still dormant, but everything else is sprouting. I usually just spot treat then, but this next year I’ll blanket spray to rid of the remaining St. Augustine.

It does look like St Augustine. You can tackle it now with two approaches:1. Keep the lawn cut low since bermuda likes short grass and St Augustine likes long grass.
2. Get some MSMA or DSMA and use as a spot spray on the St Aug. You can also try 2,4-D but the MSMA and DSMA should be best. These herbicides will kill or strongly set back the St Augustine.
Good luck.

Wow! Look’s like you’ve got the Humongous Killer Venus Man Trap plant. You shouldn’t go into your garden unless you take necessary precautions, including taking in a sword (or jumbo gardening secateurs) for chopping off its tentacles as they try to grab you, a loudspeaker for calling for help, and a good exciting book (preferably not a romance) to keep you occupied while you’re slowly digested inside it. My advice would be:1. Obtain chemical weaponry/ napalm, which is normally effectinve2. The Venus Man Trap isn’t partial to awful pop music, so playing this at an annoyingly loud volume should help encourage it to leave. Kylie Minogue is ideal.3. Trusty old Mr. Shotgun. Enough said.4. Concreting over your garden should help prevent a recurrance.Hope this helps.
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
I am from the north and it has taken me five yrs to learn and undertand seville lawns. No 1…
