Had lawn replaced – are these different types of Zoysia?

I’ve come to the forum to help clear things up! I had my lawn replaced last week with Empire Zoysia. The new grass has been in 1 week today.
I noticed when it was being laid down that the two pallets in my front yard looked different. Especially after watered, the front yard was basicically green instantly, while the rest of the lawn took a couple days to begin to green up. Additionally, the front yard looks like the pictures of Empire Zoysia I’ve seen everywhere. Fairly think blades, etc.
The rest of the property has been fairly slow to green up, but is all basically green now. It really looks like I have different grass in the back though! The blades are so much skinnier, the color is a bit different, etc. There is a definite difference. I’m looking for opinions – did the lawn guy try to cut costs and install a different variety of Zoysia in the rest of my lawn? I asked him and he says it’s all Empire, so I’m looking for advice. I couldn’t find a quarter, but the coin in the picture is the same size as a quarter.
Thanks for the help!

Can you take a picture of it standing back further?

Hard to say on the pictures. Cut a piece up and take it and either get it tested through UF or take it to an expert….a local sod farm for example.
Ask the guy where his supplier is located…..and check them out too.

When I had my yard sodded with Meyer zoysia, I noticed that some of the pieces looked different, but they all ended up growing the same.

Now that I think about it, I had some different pallets too. I remember pallets with really short lighter colored sod.

I have JaMur Zoysia, an improved version of Empire Zoysia and I did notice some different looking pieces of sod when the lawn was laid in November 2010. I thought I had different grasses, but it seems to be growing in to look more like all the same grass. Hopefully, this is a normal behavior for Zoysia and you have nothing to worry about.
