Ground Pearls in Centipede

Could someone explain what ground pearls are?I live in central Alabama and have just sodded my one acre lot with centipede for the second time. I over-fertilized last fall. Resodded this past March. Sod looks great, but then I read about “ground pearls”–I would like to know more.
