Grass Repair, Riverside, California

I live in an area where it can be as hot as 120, and low as 30. The grass I have is very flat in the front yard, and mounds of grass with empty patches in the backyard. I would like to get your advice on the best type of grass to plant in my area. I heard about bahia grass, and I saw a grass type called Pentakot (I believe this is the correct spelling). I didn’t want to re-establish new grass, I just wanted to re-seed, and hopefully take over the existing grass with a taller, more fuller, thicker, prettier grass. Your response is appreciated.
