floritam or st. augustine???

Ive been searching and searching for floritam grass seed..ive seen the posts as Floritam/st. augustine..are they the same??? is that what i should look for??i have lost alot of my front lawn due to a huge mistake of putting a swing out front..so it ended up being a very busy place…where they have worn out my lawn..so i wanted to seed instead of sod (sod is alot of work) and i’d like to get it in before rainy season…so its the same?? floritam & St augustine?? thanks

its the same, but you can’t buy seed. Best bet use plugs 12 inches apart.

I am plugging sparse areas of my lawn with Palmetto St. Augustine plugs I bought at Lowe’s. It’s beautiful and grows rapidly. Look at sodsolutions.com for photos and information.

Floratam (Created by the University of Florida and Texas AM) is a cultivar of St. Augustine.

In fact, as Bill has mentioned, there are other cultivars that are popular.

Palmetto, Floratam, Delmar, Raleigh, among others.

Angel,Sod is the way to go if your area is used often. Plugs are good and cheaper but takes some time to fill in. I just finished sodding 1500 sq feet and it isn’t as hard as you think I’m no youngster anymore(60yrs)and I did it in a few days. Bought one skid at a time(500sq.ft.ea.) and water it twice a day. I got the sod for $125 per skid. Go for it, you won’t be disapointed.Joe
