Existing St. Augustine grass

I live in South Florida. About 2 years ago I sodded an 8000sq ft area of my property. For cost reasons, I left an area without any sod. I have since prepared this area in hopes of the adjacent grass to grow over the newly treated soil. To level this area I had to cover some existing grass. My question: Will the St. Augustine grass grow through the new soil or will I have to cut a strip of grass along side the top soil I just laid so the grass grows over top. Sorry for my lenghty explanation.Sincerely, Dave Walen

it will grow over.it will also take awhile to do so,especially if it’s a big area.to speed up the growth you could cut small plugs from your existing grass 2-3″ x 2-3″,and plant it in the bare area.
