We are moving to Driftwood, Texas which is just outside of Wimberley. If anyone has any experience with Emerald Zoysiagrass vs. Legacy or 609 Buffalo grass (pros and cons) I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Also, is seed better vs. plugs realizing of course, plugs grow faster? The area it would be used is around 1,000 sq. ft. with sun exposure to part shade. Thanks!

Emerald Zoysia grass has one of the slowest growth habbits, encrochment by other ‘weedy’ grasses such as bermuda will be a problem. Also, Chemical controll of these weedy grasses could be a problem also within the zoysia grass.
Zoysia plugs spaced 12″ apart may take as long as two seasons to fill in completely. The best way is to solid sod zoysia.
Another Cultivar to look at would be El Toro Zoysia.
Buffalo 609 is a good grass for low maintenance areas. It does not take a lot of water and will go dormant in drought like conditions. It does not produce unsightly seed heads like other buffalo grasses. Remember one established, if you do not water it it will go dormant and look brown.
