Is anyone in North Carolina (or Southeastern US) using Cody Buffalograss? I live in Apex, NC (Near Raleigh) and am considering it. Would like feedback, please.

I have no first hand experience with Buffalograss therefore, my comments are based on readings and a few observations of the turf in NW Florida. I believe Buffalograss is the only true turfgrass native to the US. However, it is native to the subhumid/semiarid areas of the country. It does not do well (susceptible to disease, bugs and invasion of other grasses) in areas that get 20 or 25 inches of rain each year. I would not recommend it as a permanent turf in our part of the world!

New cultivars of buffalograss are great. [You should plant female plugs. Seeding gives horrible results] They use very little water and require little or no mowing. Prestige Turf Type buffalograss is now available. There are no disease or insect problems. Deveoped by the University of Nebraska. Rights were sold to Todd Valley Farms in 2004. www.toddvalleyfarms.com
