I live in northeast Charlotte, NC in a small town called Mint Hill. My home faces south and we have always had Bermuda grass in our yard. I killed the yard twice with Roundup only to have it come back. Last year in August I killed the Bermuda with Ornamec until I was sure it was all brown(it had not gone dormant at that time). I sowed 800# of a blended Fescue grass seed and it came up great. I figured if I planted it thick it would partially shade it and keep it from coming back with a bang.In the spring it still looked good but when the heat wave began in earnest the Bermuda came back in spots and I have continued to try to keep it that way.I am looking for a more drought tolerant fescue and ran up on Bulldog 15 Tall Turf Type grass produced at the University of Georgia. It is said to be very heat tolerant but I was wondering 1) has anyone ever planted it and 2) how is it in cold temps as we had 4 winters nights in Dec of ’09 down in the teens.Looking for some help from NC, SC, GA if possible. Thanks for the help in advance.

I have not had any personal experience w/ the variety of which you speak, but fescue in the south…is still fescue in the south.

You can read all the NTEP trials ’til you’re blue in the face, fescue just isn’t supposed to look good during summer in the south.

I know exactly your location and its climate and I am struggling with the same issue. I am going to keep fescue in my front yard that nobody walks on and switch to either B or St A in the back where everybody is outside all summer. I have no exposure to B except as a weed… There is a new Bayer product at Lowes that supposedly kills B selectively.

PS the active ingredients in the products mentioned in this post thus far are fluazifop-etc and fenoxaprop-etc and when I google these I find an academic paper claiming comparable kill of B grass.
