dog safe fertilizer?

What’s a good fertilizer that would be considered dog safe? I am assuming something that is organic. However, there seem to be many options…
thanks,–steve

you’re probably overreacting. i’m a commercial applicator and a dog nut as well. use the proper fertilizer at the right time and allow it to be watered in them let the dog back out the lawn when the watering has dried. very small amount of interaction with the fertilizer at that point. if you’ll specify a location, perhaps i could offer a schedule.

If you want to try something that will fertilize and you don’t have to worry, use ordinary corn meal or alfalfa pellets at a rate of 10-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. You can use used coffee grounds (from any coffee shop) at the same rate.

Milorganite! The old golf course favorite. (check out Caddyshack–Bill Murray’s character builds a bunker out of Milorganite bags!)It’s safe for veggies, pets, etcNot considered “organic” by the FDA because it contains sewage sludge, but people have been using it on edible crops for decades, and it is rated safe for veggies.

All of the above are good answers. Don’t worry about fertilizer hurting your dog. If it would hurt your dog it would hurt your kids and then the fertilizer would not be on the market. If you still worry put out your fertilizer late then water in at night or even better put it out before a good rain.
Alternatively you could use a liquid fertilizer that you hook to your hose and spray on the yard.
