Dead areas in Zoysia

I have newly sodded zoysia (May 2011) and it’s been growing like crazy and is very full and thick. The problem is there are specific areas that are dying off and look black where the die off occurs. The patches started off smaller and look to be spreading. I’m thinking it’s a disease of some sort, but I’m not sure which one. Does any have any clues and how I could treat it?

Without knowing the exact cause, I would first try to spread a lot of sugar and some organic fertilizers such as corn meal, soybean meal etc to improve the soil.

Look underneath the sod for grubs.
I would be careful about doing anything until I knew the cause.
