Dark Black Area Where Sand Was Placed

Help! I live in Ohio with a lawn that is 3 years old from sod. Ky Blue. We recently did a paver patio and had the sand dumped on plastic on our lawn. (We had a friend say it was easier to fix your lawn than haul all the limestone etc.) Anyway, all the areas except the one that was under the sand seem to be recovering fine. The problem area doesn’t look brown but almost black and smells like a barnyard! I am not sure whther it has rotted or just gone dormant. When I pull from the roots They are opaque in color. It has been very hot and dry here for weeks. PLease give any advise.
Thanks!

“Black” and “odor” indicates to me you have dead (vice dormant) grass. If it were mine I’d hold off through August and see if it “recovers”. If it does I was wrong and you are lucky. If it doesn’t recover, re-seed or sod.

It looks like to me you have either black layer or algae. Are you putting alot of water on these areas? If you are hold of on the water for awhile. Also, you can break the area up with your hands or small fork. These will allow it to dry up and to let the water go through.
