I live in Cincinnati, OH and had a new lawn put in last fall. This spring there is a lot of lighter, tall grasses that I think are crabgrass. What can I do? I’ve pulled some of it.

Thanks

Seems to be too early for crabgrass in your area. Probably Poa Annua. Does it have seeds on it now? Try looking up Poa Annua on the web and compare pics.

Let us know…………..

I did as you suggested and I think it is bluegrass that was mixed in with the seed. The builder’s landscaper said it only fescue with 0% other seed. I though maybe orchard grass but the stems are not flat.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Sounds like it could be Roughstalk Bluegrass. A very pesky weed. If so let me know and I will see what you can use on it. Other than Round Up. Was the property a farm in a previous life? If so you may want to round up and overseed in the fall.

Check it out……

At this point there doesn’t seem to be above ground creeping roots. Yes this was farmland and almost every new lawn has these sticking up from the fescue. The lot next to us is still vacant and there is lots of it. I told my husband I think we have to wait until all the houses are built then kill and reseed. We are at the end of a cul de sac and don’t have a very large yard. In the mean time I want to make some more beds…so even less grass.

Can you post any pictures?

Just a thought………..
