I am new to taking care of warm season grass bermuda.I have seen a lot on this site aboutcorn meal being used as a fertilizer. is it ok to use on bermuda? would this be a primary or a supplement? i live in tampa thank you

Corn meal works for everything from grasses to trees including food crops and ornamentals. Application rate is 10-20 pounds per 1,000 square feet. I use it as my only fertilizer on turf in San Antonio on Valentine’s Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.

I’ve started using corn meal but have big mole cricket problems. Several people told me that the corn meal attracts mole crickets. Is this true? And through your exprience have this ever happen to you?

Can I use grocery store corn meal? None of the local feed stores carry corn meal. I really appreciate your information on this subject. I’ve got some St. Augustine with fungus problems. Since I haven’t used the fungicide I bought today. I will go to store tomorrow and get some corn meal. Will get it on the grass at least by July 4!! Thank you very much.Frank

UPDATE: I put down 50 lbs of grocery store corn meal (July 4). A month later the grass is looking better than its looked for several years. I’m a believer!! Plan to repeat the application around Labor Day.Thanks again,FrankSt Cloud, FL

I know that some of you agree 100% with cornmeal being a fungicide. First, let me say that I am not one of them. I agree that cornmeal is a cheap organic fertilizer. Nothing more.

If there are fungicide properties to cornmeal it is in the fact that it makes turf healthier and better able to withstand a disease outbreak. Nothing more.

Therefore I would never use cornmeal in a situation where disease was present. It is too important to cure what disease you have and even more important to protect the plants that are not affected yet.

Cornmeal is fertilizer……………..

I would like to say thanks so very much again to this forum for turning me onto using corn meal on my lawn!! It’s been almost five years now and my lawn continues to look great!! Nothing I had tried for over 20 years seemed to work. Several years I had a commercial lawn service which I cancelled when they could not fix the problem. I had just about given up, when I discovered this forum and CORNMEAL.Now, when I see any brown spots, I simply spread some corn meal and in 2 or 3 weeks the brown spots disappear!!As I said before, I am a believer!!Thanks,Frank
