Control Bahia Grass around bush and flowering plant areas

My next door neighbor brought in a load of dirt about 2 years ago from an unknown area and it contained bahia grass seeds in it. The bahia has invaded my landscaped areas containing flowering plants and ornate bushes. I have tried to dig it out multiple times but it comes back with a vengence. I know its in my yard as well. Really tired of having to dig out my landscaped areas. I am in the process now of digging it out and plan on covering the ground with a weed barrier and then mulching back over this. Need some advice on how to control it and will weed barrier even help.
