Construction finished! Any chance for a lawn in July?

We just finished major yard renovation and have a good several inches of topsoil, but it’s summer in St. Louis. Can we establish any grass at all now or do we have to wait? If we can start now – any recommendations? (Neighbors here only seem to want fescue or Kentucky bluegrass nearby.) If it’s too late until fall, what should we do to protect the topsoil now and when should we proceed?

Take a look at University of Missouri publication on establishing a lawn. According to the experts you are about 2 months away from prime time for seeding.
