coarse bermuda grass

Why is my new princess 77 lawn that I planted from seed two months ago becoming very coarse with thick stems growing from a central point? I live in hawaii and have been watering quite a bit to get the seed growing.

I too live in Hawaii and I’m about to seed a part of my lawn with Princess 77.
HOw’s your lawn looking now? Still the same problem?

My advise is to be patient. The thick stems that you are seeing are stolons (above ground runners). The grass is still in the establishment phase. It will not form rhizomes(underground runners) until the second year of growth (which is common to all seeded bermudagrass). Continue to manage fertility and weed problems, mow low < 3/4′ and often and it will be fine.
Good luck
