Can grass get along with dogs and kids?

I’ve got to sod or seed a yard, mostly shady, with something. North Florida, near Tallahassee. I’d like something or a mix of something that is durabale primarily, and will grow in mostly shade or one variety for shade areas and another for sunny areas. I remember moving into our last house and thinking what a nice yard it had in back. Two years later and it’s been beat up in the more played-in or travelled areas.

Any suggestions?
