Buffalo Grass

How hearty is this native grass and does it work well in the shade? I also hear there are many varieties. Any pros or cons on planting this?

I haven’t grown Buffalo grass, but have been reading about it on university research sites. It needs full sun, doesn’t stand up to heavy use, needs to be left taller than most grasses. Hardy in cold weather (Texas cold, not northern cold). Has to be grown from seed.

I don’t believe Buffalo grass does well in shade. You might consider Blue Gamma instead. Another tip is to contact your county’s agricultural extension agent to find out what works well in your area.
Good luck.
