i have brown spot on my grass (st. augustine) is this do to fertilizer or some else

Thats really no where near enough information to beging to diagnose your problem.
Try clicking around the turfgrass.com website for some research. Phil has alot of nifty pictures and whatnot in there.
Maybe if you could be more specific about your location, shade, soil type, watering habits, fertilizer use, and maybe even a photo of the brown spot (a picture is worth 1,000 words), we might be able to help you more.
