I would like to hear from anyone who has had St. Augustine sod put in. What kind do you have? Do you like it? What general area do you live in? What kind of soil do you have?

Best depends on what you want, where you live, etc. I live in NW Florida and most everyone has good, if not great, St Augustine lawns.

i think a good question is where are you planning on installing it? i think for most homeowners the difference between the cultivars is just splitting hairs…..

my brother is nuts about ‘palmetto’. He lives in Houston,Tx. He keeps telling me to get them for my new house south of FTW-Dallas. The climate between houston and here is big difference so who knows how well Palmetto will perform but one thing caught my attention is that they’re “drawf”, greens up early, stays green later, deepest root system of all thus greater drought tolerant, more cold tolerant than others thus staying green later than others. I did some looking around online and they seem to be good one. It’s pointless if you won’t care for them though e.g. properly preparing soil, watering , fertlizer, etc otherwise stick with native grasses. lol.

The most attractive St. Augustine cultivar(in my opinion) is Seville. A semi-dwarf with a dark green color, Seville can be mowed as low as 1 1/2 inches. It is also very shade tolerant.
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
I am from the north and it has taken me five yrs to learn and undertand seville lawns. No 1…
