Bermuda grass knowledge

Help! I live in Escondido CA, and I am having a difficult time getting my Bermuda grass to stay uniform and green. The lawn appears to have a consistent dead/withered look under the top layer of green. Is this the dreaded thatch I have heard so much about? I am aware enough to realize that this type of grass does not thrive in the winter, but the aforementioned problem happens throughout the summer.

Sounds to me like you need to drop your mower. Only the top inch or so of bermuda will remain a vibrant green. So, if your cutting at 2″ expect the lower half to not be green; too much shade way down in there.
