Amazoy Plugs – growth rate

I’m in NE Texas, Dallas area and ended up plugging Amazoy from the well-known online farm. Could anyone tell me how rapid the growth is on this strain?

My understanding is Amazoy is the same as Meyer zoysia, which is one of the more slowly spreading zoysias. I have Meyer in my lawn in Atlanta. It was fully sodded, and looked good for a while, but it has had problems in shady spots, and it is very slow to recover from damage. Even in full sun, it doesn’t spread very quickly. I wish I had gone with El Toro.

Amazoy refers to Meyer or Z-52 Zoysia. According to a study by Perdue Univerity, Amazoy stolon growth rate is about 5 mm/day and spread rate is about 1200 cm square in 90 days (a little more than 1 square foot).

It is one of the slower spreading grasses. To speed it up, recommend you fertilize it lightly, deep water, and mow frequently.
