When to apply crabgrass pre-emergent in Austin TX
wikiliki – posted 10 February 2008 01:02
Had new sod laid last year about mid-year. Bermuda, and I fought crabgrass all year, finally got it under control, and then everything went dormant towards the end of the year.
I’ve read a bunch of things here, thanks for the help. Now I’ve got some specific questions. I don’t want to have that nightmare again this year, so WHEN is the correct time to apply the pre-emergent for crabgrass in Austin TX ? and what is the best one to use ?
And what fertilizer should I put down on the lawn right now ?
Thanks in advance for all the responses.

Being as far south as you are, you should probably get the weed preventer down by the beginning of March. There are usually two or three brands available at your garden center,(labled for lawns), which also have fertilizer mixed in. Any of the products will do the trick, but you will more than likely have a little crabgrass show anyway. Keep some spray handy to wipe out the lone survivors!
