Grass for Dallas, TX home with lots of shade / spots of direct sun

We are finishing a remodel, and are removing decking from around a pool, and redoing much of our landscaping (old, overrun plantings). We live near White Rock Lake, and have some very mature, large oaks, pecans, etc. and have significant shade through most of the yard. The one exception is one area near the pool, that will have direct afternoon sun (between the pool and the house).

We currently have some variety of St Augustine. I’ve never liked it, but thought it was my only choice. Do any of you have suggestions for other turf varieties that I could use (even overseed existing SA), that would make a softer, greener lawn that children could play on?

As far as warm season grass selections go, St Augustine is the most shade-tolerant, followed by Zoysia. However, even St Augustine needs about 2 hours of sun to grow and fill in.
