1/2 of backyard is hopeless

Location: South Atlanta
Around 2500 square feet of my backyard is 99% weed growth.
I figure I may as well kill it all and go through the process of seeding it from scratch.
I’ve read a ton of websites about the seeding process for new lawns, but am a little fearful about actually killing it off and starting the process.
Does anyone have any advice?
Should I just buy some commercial grade round up?
Also, any good suggestions for places to purchase supplies in South Atlanta (i.e. wholesale suppliers)
We’ve got a newborn on the way and I want to prep the back yard.

spray round up, after everything is dead, mow short. keep the area moist until any left over weed seeds germinate. Spray round up again after new weeds are a couple of inches tall. After the second kill is complete, go ahead and seed/ top dress.
