You can put down alfafla when ever you want and as much as you want without suffocating the grass. If you can somehow manage to get the alfalfa into the soil you’ll be amazed at what it can do.

That’s exactly what I did 10-10-10 and then a week later alfalfa. If you’re having problems with roots in a specific area, my guess is either nematodes or fungus.

Bad nemotodes live in bad soil. Fix the soil and you’ll be all set. that’s if nematodes are the problem.

nematodes.. i am going to look that up. IA have never heard of them B4.. After further inspection from my wife, she has notice alot of acorn have pushed up under this bad section. I had a oak tree taken out there and i guess some of those acorns got pushed down in the soil via the bobcat. Now tey are swelling baby oaks are popping up. The oaks will be easy to get rid of but the pushed up sod isnt rootin I wonder if rerolling that area would help it. AIt is green there but not as green as most of the yard. I am gonna hit it with good dose of alfalfa dust and then rake a little black cow over it and then water it about 1/2 A INCH.. Does that plan sound like a good start?

thanks J

Also look up brown patch and dollar spot. I recently found that I had both. My grass always looked like it had excessive thatch even though I would bag my clippings. Or it looked liked my blades werent sharp enough. It took me forever to figure this out. Once you get these fungi, you will have to apply a fungicide each year. Now, I just incorporate Scotts fungicide into my fertilizer schedule each year.
