Zoysia in Dallas, TX?

I live in N. Dallas & currently have a bermuda lawn but am considering switching to zoysia. First, is this recommended? Second, if I scalp the lawn & seed will the zoysia establish well or is plugging better? My neighbor & I are thinking about doing this this Spring. Are there any local places to look at how my lawn will hopefuly look like when I’m through?

I never heard of Zoysia being seeded, you have to plug it or sod it. If you plug it, it will take two years to have a lawn, Zoysia is very slow growing. You will want to kill your bermuda yard if you decide to put Zoysia down, otherwise the bermuda will start taking over. Just spray roundup and wait about 7 days to do anything to it. The bermuda has to be green to spray roundup or it will not work.

I hope you know that zoysia is yellow most of the year, and requires way too much attention.

It might be yellow most of the year, but it does not require alot of attention. It has less disease and chokes out the weeds

Zoysia is an awesome turf here in alabama. It only turns yellow where fido marks his turf. or if you don’t water it.
Emerald is very popular and is thick, green and weed free. If you skalp your bermuda it will only get thicker. I would remove the bermuda and then put down Zoysia sod. It does cost more then Bermuda. one pallet will cover about 500 sf2.

You can buy Zenith Zoysia from seed at Home Depot and maybe Lowes. You probably have a hydro seeding company that will spray the seed down.

i also live in n dallas and im considering zoysia for my lawn. seedland.com provides a lot of great information. for our area, it will be green most of the time. at that point i will use ryegrass. growing from seeds is slow and meticulus, im looking to buy a couple of pallets of it.
