Does anyone know how soon one can dethatch a yard in central Texas area. And if you do it too early will more weeds envade your yard due to the raking removing the dead material?

make sure it needs dethatching first. generally, it’s a good idea to wait until a little later because it may not have fully greened up yet. it’s a good idea to dethatch it, then just mow the lawn with a bagger- lots easier than raking- and be prepared for a big job.
