Yellowing streaks in St. Augustine grass
Donna – posted 09 August 2005 14:03
Every year my grass looks great until August,& then starts streaking yellow (not patches) & then it dies. I,ve tried trimming trees for more sun, more nitrogen, cutting grass higher, supplements for the dog (in case urine causing);even had bug away treat the lawn, but have not seen anything except ants;local nursery sold me some molasses and corn meal, have watered more, nothing works….any thoughts, anybody?

Every August h’mm? This could be caused by shallow roots due to improper watering. August is hot, frequently dry and thus your grass could be drying out and burning.
If not that then I am stumped. Suggest taking a soil and grass sample to your agriculture center. Those guys are real pros and should be able to help you cheaply.
