Organic N could be helpful, such as soybean meal or Milorganite, in addition to corn meal application.

Does this only happen after it rains, or does it look like this all the time? It almost looks like fungus infestation to me. Its either that or some sort of other disease. Seems like it is dying for some reason.

It really only looks that yellow after rain/watering.. It is rooted well but it is much less greenthat the rest of the lawn..
Would it hurt to fungicide if somehow it turns out to be fungus?? Or can i use it Just in case

The fungicide won’t hurt the grass at all. This is definatley a weird case though, so I’m not sure what is happening. Typically, when it rains or you water Zoysia greens up really quickly. So, to turn yellow from water is strange.

OK I now see it even when it is dry (I have horrible eyesight) So it just was more noticeable to me when wet.. The grass is sick. I am gonna try a fungicide. Then should I give it something like alfalfa or corn meal? I am about to throw up

If it is fungus how should I water the area? It is on a incline and drains extremely well and gets tons of sun. Any other diseases that I should suspect?

Maybe the problem is that it drains too well and its not retaining the water. Before putting down any fungicide I would put down so organic material silimalr to what EZF stated. I would top dress with some organic compost (i.e. Black Kow) or even better some high quality top soil. See what happens when you get some nutrients down in the soil. This will also help to retain water. I have some areas in my lawn that don’t really drain very well, but even in those areas the grass grows fine. Ususually with Zoysia, you only tend have those types of issues when its not getting enough water.

I have some areas that are not greening up..not quite as bad as what I’m seeing here, but some of these areas are sloped and some get a lot more afternoon sun/heat. My shaded areas are doing very well. I think those sloped areas need aerated. I would (and plan on doing myself) aerate, dump some black kow on the lawn and spread it thinly and evenly so it can work down into the holes. This can only help.
leweezo – posted 24 May 2012 10:32
Ok here is my gameplan..1. I will spray with a fungicide Just in case2. I will spread some black kow with ground alfalfa mixed in 3. A few days later I will spread some organic Nitro on it
That should cover alot of problems and I hope wont be too crazy for it
Hows it sound??

What you are planning on adding to the lawn would be more beneficial if you aerated first.
leweezo – posted 24 May 2012 10:55
Never Areated B$. Is there a way to do that without a riding mower??
jod788 – posted 24 May 2012 11:01
I don’t know how big of an area you have to aerate..you can do the whole lawn if you want, or just the trouble spots. You can rent an aerator for probably $40-50…all you are doing is removing plugs of soil..it’s basically like operating a self propelled lawn mower. Or you can just buy a manual one for $20-30 that you just step down on. If you aerate first, you create 3″ holes in the lawn and all of that stuff you are adding can get down into the soil and be more effective. The holes will fill in with time, of course.

I just manually aerated my yard last week with a step aerator. Lucky I don’t have a huge lawn so it wasn’t to bad although my ankle was sore a couple days after. just make sure that you thoroughly water the area you plan to aerate right before you do it. If you don’t, the manual aerator will not work and the tines will get blocked with dry dirt. I made this mistake last week :> I can say though that after I aerated my lawn now looks amazing!

thanks for the advice, I having very crushed because of the extreme drougt my town is in 18 inch deficit. Not good for a first year sod with a first time yard owner.. I water a inch but the next dy the ground is hard andthe grass gets dry again. I have had no deep rains and I fear my roots cant get deep in the hard ground.. I am also afraid that if I jump up the watering, my well will dry out.. Last year it rained so much my yard was a mudslide.. My hope right now is to keep the roots alive and ope next year we will get more than 1 and 3/4 inch of rain ALL SPRING

Aerating will help remedy your problem. It will promote deeper root growth, help your lawn hold more water and require less…

Do you have an irrigation system? If so, how long are you watering per zone? Here in Tampa we just got slapped with only being allowed to water once a week from twice which makes it very diffcult to keep the soil moist.

1. I will aerate as soon as UPS delivers the tool.. (20/200 vision keeps me from going out in the world.2.As for watering, I water 1 inch per week but that only has been good enough fdor part of the yard to grow. Most of the yard is rooted but not growing at all. It has been 70+ degrees since feb here, but absolutely no rain. I am suicidal at this poing. Since I am on a well I have no water restrictions but I DO NOT want to run my well dry. I just wanna make it to frost so maybe next year will be better..

hows the ph of your soil? Alkaline soils tend to block iron and the grass will appear yellow
