yellow sod

I bought 20 pieces of st.augustine palmetto sod from home depot to repair an area in my yard. It was yellow with a little light green and a little straw in it, but the majority was yellow. I started not to but it but the manager of home depots lawn and garden department said it was fine and would green up in about a week maybe two at the most. so i bought it and laid it.what i would like to know is the home depot guy telling me the truth and if so should i fertilize or something to help it out. I live in central florida and have been wattering the sod 3 times daily with a water hose. not running spriklers because we have had alot of rain lately and yard needs time to dry out.
