Working on new lawn

Hi. I am in the process of pulling out St. Augustine grass in my backyard because I want a softer grass. What kind of grass or mixture of grasses are soft. I heard that Bermuda grass is soft but grows quite aggressively. This is a problem since I have many flower beds. Oh by the way, I live in the South.

bermuda is a finer bladed grass. but it’s success depends on where you live in the south. it spreads generally in the way st. aug. does. it is best sodded, not seeded.

I live in Louisiana. Bermuda is good, but it grows quite aggressively. How about fescue? Will fescue survive in the South? And is it relatively soft as well?

way too far south for year round fescue- you could overseed with it in the winter , however.

Hmm. Then what other choices of grass do I have? Bermuda is out and so is fescue.

Let me just repeat the kind of grass that I am looking for.
1)A soft textured and fine bladded grass.
2)A non-aggressive growing grass; grass that does not grow into flowerbeds.
3)A grass that grows well in Louisiana.
I looked at Zyosia and read that it is quite coarse at seedland.com. I also reconsidered Bermuda grass since it comes in many different varities that fulfills some of the criteria. But what type of Bermuda grass fulfills the 3 criteria that I have listed above? Thanks.

I just bought bermuda grass by scotts. I was wondering since that I am not able to pull up all the st.augustine roots by shoveling. Will the St augustine grass grow alongside the bermuda?
