What to use for overseeding bermuda

I’ve decided to let the bermuda keep growing in my lawn, but I want to overseed for winter. I don’t want to go a whole winter here in NC looking at brown grass. I’m thinking of overseeding with fescue rather than rye. I don’t like the way rye looks when it dies in the spring. Also, there are parts of my yard with fescue (mainly near the neighbors, who also have fescue). Maybe next summer I’ll cut the bermuda in the back low so it’ll be better for athletic activities. I’m really not bothered much by the fescue/bermuda mix, but what I don’t like is the crabgrass and dead spots. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I too live in NC, Raleigh to be exact. I planted perennial rye last fall. It looked great starting early spring and lasted until the first of July. Your bermuda should be coming on strong by that time and you shouldn’t have to look at a whole lot of brown grass except possibly in the very coldest part of the winter?

Strange. I planted a mixture of rye and fescue out front last fall. The rye took very well and looked great all through the fall and winter. It started dying out in the spring, and was browning in May.
