We purchaed our home in Spet 2008 in Spring, TX the lawn is sod. We are boht new to lawn care and we now have lots of weeds on one side where there is not another house as of yet and one spot in the back yard. I am not sure but think it is St Augustine grass. We are wondering if we need to use some sort of weed and feed as it is just trying to start to turn green after the winter weather.

Weed and feed products are generally not recommended in Texas. The weed portion needs to be applied in mid-February and the fertilizer in mid April to do the most good. I’d suggest just be religious about mowing and feed lightly with a slow release fertilizer and see what results you get this first year. It’s almost always better to get to know your lawn and landscape for a year before deciding what changes to make.
