Weed killer safe for lakeside

Anyone know of an all around weed killer that is safe for use on the edge of a lake. We can’t get the lawnmower to it because of steep ground and would like to spray it and kill EVERYTHING. No good grass is there!

Anything available that I won’t have to worry about the EPA?

Glyphosate and 2,4-D are labeled for aquatic use, i.e. that is what we kill aquatic weeds with, among other things. So using those two products in turf adjacent to water will not only take care of your problem, but will be safe for the water and legal too. Bear in mind that the use of atrazine is not permitted within 50 or 100 feet, I can’t recall which, of any water source, either surface or well.

What is the main ingrediate in Round-Up?

Where do I find these two you mentioned? Are they sold under another name?

The active ingredient in roundup is glyphosate, so you can use roundup. The reason I did not mention roundup is that it is not labeled for aquatic use. However, the product that is labeled for aquatic use is called rodeo and it is the same damn thing. 2,4-d is a very old herbicide and is sold under a number of trade names. The particular one I use is called Weedar 64.

Roundup contains a detergent not safe for water. The detergent helps it adhere to the leaves. Rodeo is Roundup w/o the detergent, therefore safe.

I notice this conversation is about weeds near the edge of the water. How about weeds in the water? Our lake is up 17 feet, so the water is up to my porch, now I just want to get rid of the lilly pads and hyacinths etc because the grasses hide snacks by my porch. Can I use Rodeo IN the water?

rodeo is used for grassy weeds near or in the water, but is not useful for lily pads or such things as that. you can use 2,4-d for any broadleaf, non-submerged weeds.
