Water Grass

I had sod laid this past spring. I put down Kentucky Blue Grass. I now have what I call water grass (I don’t know the real name of it) growing in between the seams of the sod. It grows much faster than my bluegrass and is actually taking over my yard. How do I kill this grass and not kill my bluegrass? Someone told me I had to wait until spring and use a pre-imergent. Any help would be appreciated.
