To late to sod?

We’ve been living in our new home for alittle over a year now. When we bought the house only the front yard was sod’ed. I never did anything to the back yard and now it is completly covered in weeds. I now have saved up some cash and want to get St. Augustine sod laid in the back.
I have already sprayed the yard to kill the weeds. I planned on having someone till up the soil and weeds, drag and remove all the crap, relevel the space and lay sod. Does this sound like the right steps i need to take to get it done properly? Anything im missing? Should i lay new soil down before sodding?
Also, is it to late in the year to do this work or should i wait till next spring. I live in Austin Texas and was going to have someone start on it this week if its not to late.
thanks for any help.

In Austin, this is a second-best time of the year to get St Augustine sod put down. The weather will be cooling off in a few weeks and you wont have to struggle so hard to keep it alive. Just keep it good and damp for several weeks after it goes down and it will be well established by the time cold weather hits.
