Texas St Augustine

My front yard has St Augustine close to the house but around the perimeter of the yard it is mostly weeds and some other type of grass that is dying. The St Augustine is doing great and starting to spread over the perimeter areas. What can I do to promote the St Augustine spreading and taking over the weeds? Thanks –

water and mow high about 3 inches minimum. once a week for an hour or an inch for established turf during dry spell and more frequent watering for new runners/grasses for short period of time. Bare ground tend to dry out faster so you need to keep them moist to help the runners spread. Try some compost, about 1/2 of an inch of compost on bare ground where the runners are starting to spread out to but don’t cover the runner too much. That should keep the top inch of the soil from drying out too quickly.
