Starting Bahiah grass from seed

I am new to Florida and not sure what the best way is to get rid of my St. Augustine grass and put Bahia down. Chinch bugs already destroyed almost 1/2 my lawn, lots of bare spots, is it possible just to kill the rest and put Bahia seed down over the existing grass? I hear it’s easy to start from seeds

KimFLA, you need to get the bahiagrass seed in contact with the soil, to get it to germinate. This is about the last month to plant it this year. By September or October it is too cool to support good seedling establishment. Phil
