St. Augustine or Bermuda – Can any survive?

I live in Budapest, Hungary and HAD a beautiful little garden and lawn UNTIL I acquired a golden retriever. Now the lawn is gone and I would like to have a much more robust lawn so that the dog can stay. I found out that St. Augustine and Bermuda grass are both beautiful and durable. Hungary has a temperate continental climate where summers average in the mid-eighties and winters can dip just below freezing. The soil here is somewhat sandy (very fine-grained) which I read is good for St. Augustine and Bermuda. Can these grasses survive here in this climate? If yes, which one would be better to plant? If neither are optimal, could someone out there please suggest a grass-type that can survive my golden retriever?Thank you very much for the advice!Kati
