St. Augustine mess!?

I need some suggestions. I fertilized my new SOD with weed and feed(which I now know is wrong) and about 50% on the lawn is yellow. It seems to be coming back with 3 straight weeks of watering daily. What can I do to help speed up the process? Install patches of SOD or plugs in areas maybe?
Also my builder put about 4 inches of sand to level the front and back yards and then put the SOD on top of that. How will this affect my lawn and is this a common practice?

watering daily is good to help flush out the weed and feed. try putting down some starter fert. ive had the best results with 18-24-12. try raking out the dead sod, and replacing with new sod.
