St Augustine in Atlanta, GA

I’m considering planting Palmetto St Augustine here in Atlanta, GA. Palmetto may be more cold hardy than other varieties, but is it too risky to plant it here? I will appreciate your suggestions and comments.

Great Choice. It is more shade tolerant and disease resistant than other culivars as “Bitter Blue”

Yes agreed Palmetto becoming a favorite of mine for it’s many tolerencies. Avoid sodding in any heavy shade during grow season as it will likey fall to Pythium Root Rot in 6 weeks time. Have a good inground irrigation system with GREAT COVERAGE and that will limit the problems you’ll need deal with. Water only when it wilts and mow at 4″ (with a sharp blade)and when at a time you won’t be removing more than 1/3 the leaf blade. It’s so easy to have a beautiful St Aug lawn with the right preparations.
