St Augustine grass advise

We are about to have some st augustine sod laid in our backyard in Spicewood Texas, hill country and I want to know if this is a good choice? I was told that it could carry fungus and I do not want to deal with that issue. I have 2 dogs and 5 small grandbabies and I have some allergies. So any input on this would be appreciated. I have assorted weeds and some bermuda growing and the man that is going to lay it seems to think it will do fine. Would like some more opinions.

Sincerely!

Each grass has problems. Chinchbugs and brownspot attack St Augustine. Bermuda and zoysia have problems too. If you don’t want St Augustine consider Empire Zoysia or Emerald Zoysia as alternative.

Make sure they kill the weeds and the bermuda before installing the sod. They need to spray the area with roundup (or similiar) then repeat in about 10 days killing anything that is still green.

If you don’t kill the bermuda it will grow into your other grass. Bermuda is difficult to kill with roundup so selective herbicides that don’t kill other grasses are not real effective on the bermuda.

Good luck how ever you go!Alex

Thank you Alex. He has already started the process but he is going to dig the old grass out. I hope it will work about but appreciate your reply!Barb
