Soil Preparation for Bemuda

Came across this forum and it sounds great. I am moving into a house (san antonio, TX)that the previous owner never laid any sod down on. The weeds that are currently there are nearly 2 feet tall in certain places.

I am planning on laying down bermuda and what type of soil prep work will I need to do? Would mowing the weeds down be sufficient or do need weed killer etc and /or any other prep work?
